These panels carry an impressive 46 percent efficiency, but they currently cost up to four-times more than traditional PV panels.

#2: Avoid Having Solar Panels Installed in Shaded Areas

For a solar panel to maintain peak efficiency, it needs to be exposed to direct sunlight. If shade falls over even one photovoltaic cell on a panel, it can dramatically reduce the panel’s efficiency because it will act as a resistor and reduce the efficiency of all the other cells in that panel.

#3: Reduce the Number of Devices Being Used in the Home at Once

One of the most effective ways a customer can increase their solar system efficiency is for them to be smart about what devices are being used in the home and when, so they can conserve energy. For instance, if a room receives a lot of natural sunshine in the afternoon, turning off the lights in that room will help improve efficiency. Or, if the family is watching television, turn off the laptops, tablets, and other devices not being used at the time.

#4: Invest in Good Quality Batteries

Solar batteries need to be a top consideration when a customer budgets for a solar system because getting the best quality batteries they can afford will help ensure that their system operates as expected. Having enough battery capacity will help ensure that they will always have access to power at night and during periods of cloudy weather or power outages.

#5: Consider Adding a Solar Concentrator

A solar concentrator helps a solar panel maximize the energy it gets from the sun. If your client wants the most efficient system possible, then this might be something to include in your proposal.

#6: Keep the Solar Panels Clean

Solar panels require very little maintenance for them to work well but keeping them clean is important for maximizing their efficiency. Whether they are covered with dust, leaves, or snow, cleaning them off regularly will help ensure that your customer gets the best performance out of their panels.

#7: Have the System Regularly Maintained By Solar Professionals

Along with keeping the panels clean, a customer should have their solar system checked and maintained at regular intervals to ensure everything is working at peak performance. Regular maintenance will also help the technician identify potential problems early, so they can be resolved before they turn into major repair expenses.
