What Your Residential Solar Clients Will Want to Know About Solar Pricing in 2024

Buy Solar LeadsThe last two years saw the solar industry become somewhat stalled due to the struggling economy and certain logistical issues that resulted in elevated prices and the availability of solar panels being strained. But thanks to the Biden Administration’s actions, which helped reduce inflation and improve access to green energy, the solar market is once again thriving and 2024 will see a return of lower solar panel prices.

That said, many solar prospects remain on the fence about adopting the technology because of its past pricing concerns. For some, the sheer cost of going solar is still too intimidating for them to make their purchasing decision. So, being able to calm those concerns and offer them a variety of different options is important for helping nudge them in the right direction. This starts by answering their questions and telling your residential solar clients everything they will want to know about solar pricing in 2024.

Solar’s Prices are Going Down in 2024

Over the past two decades, the solar industry has seen a substantial reduction in solar costs across the board. Much of this change can be attributed to the rapid advancements being made in solar technology. Solar panel technology has improved tremendously with production being made more efficient than ever. When solar panels can be made efficiently and become widely available, this translates into greater savings for the end user.

Federal Tax Incentives Help Curb the Cost of Solar Even Further

The average cost-per-watt for solar energy installations across the U.S. is around $2.86/W before any incentives are applied. And since the average American home needs at least an 11kW solar panel system to cover its energy usage, then that means the cost for an installation using mid-range equipment would be $31,460. The same size installation using high-end equipment would run about $36,960, whereas using low-end equipment would drop the price to around $25,960.

While all three of these price points may still be considered high by many homeowners, it is important to remind your prospects that these prices are before federal tax incentives are applied. In 2024, the federal solar tax credit is 30%, so this means that the total out of pocket cost of your prospect’s installation can be reduced by nearly a third.

So, that $31,450 solar installation will actually cost your client $22,022 after taking advantage of the federal solar tax credit. And this doesn’t include any other potential state or manufacturer incentives.

Of course, it is important to note that the greatest price savings is achieved when the client pays for their system in cash. If they choose to finance, then their total cost will be higher simply due to the interest on their loan. It is also important to mention that while solar leasing is an option, they would not be eligible for the federal tax credit program.

Solar Savings Play a Major Role in Overall Cost

Another thing that you should explain to your prospects is that unlike their current grid-connected electrical system, solar provides such a reduction in energy costs that within nine or ten years, the system will basically pay for itself. With most solar panels guaranteed to last for 25 to 40 years, that means that your prospect will have decades of free energy waiting for them in their future.
