Ready to Close More Residential Solar Deals?

Buy Solar LeadsSolar prices have dropped substantially over the last two decades, making it more accessible to a wider range of homeowners. And with all the other benefits of solar, like lower energy bills, higher home values, and access to cleaner, more sustainable energy, selling it to prospects should be easy. So, why aren’t solar panels on more homes?

The truth is there is still a large population of homeowners who simply don’t know enough about solar and how it can improve not only their lives, but the health of the planet as well. This is where the solar installer comes in. It’s ultimately your job to educate your prospects about solar’s ability to transform their lives. Understanding the following five biggest selling points will help you sell residential solar faster.

#1: Solar Equals Savings

Telling a prospect that they can save money with solar can be a hard sell because going solar is still a sizable investment. But even this can be overcome by thoroughly covering the topic. For instance, while solar installation costs can be high, most homeowners can finance their installations, thus turning a once hefty upfront investment into more affordable and easier to manage monthly payments.

To make matters even better, they will enjoy lower energy bills starting from the moment their systems are turned on. The savings they get on their new, low energy bills can be applied to their monthly solar payment, meaning that the homeowner will only extra money coming out of their pocket will be to cover the remainder of the payment. With these types of savings, the average solar system pays for itself in nine years or less.

#2: Solar Elevates a Home’s Market Value

Solar is on most new home buyer wish lists because today’s buyers want energy independent homes capable of running with lower utility bills. Thus, homes with solar panels sell for an average of four percent higher than similar model homes that are not equipped with solar. That’s an average increase of $20,000 on a $500,000 home. And solar homes sell faster, too.

#3: Federal Tax Incentives are Leaving

The federal government recently extended the solar investment tax credit program, which was scheduled to expire in 2024. As of right now, homeowners who have their systems installed at any time between 2022 and the end of 2032 will qualify for a 30% tax credit. The credit will drop to 26% for systems installed in 2033 and to 22% for systems installed in 2034. The new expiration date is January 1, 2035, unless Congress renews it.

There is no maximum amount that can be claimed, so a homeowner getting a dollar-for-dollar reduction in the amount of their income tax based on 30% of the cost of their solar installation can be a very compelling selling point.

#4: Low Maintenance Requirements

Solar panels are manufactured to exacting standards, and they’re built to last for decades. In fact, the average solar system will produce reliable energy for up to 40 years with very minimal maintenance needs. With the average system paying for itself in about nine years, your prospect could potentially enjoy hassle-free energy with no to low maintenance costs for up to three decades!

#5: Peace of Mind

There’s no arguing that we live in turbulent times. From natural disasters increasing in frequency and strength to tightening tensions between many of the world’s superpowers, there’s a lot to worry about. Having solar installed on a home will give a homeowner one less thing to worry about.

Should their region’s power be interrupted by a devastating storm or a targeted attack on the national electric grid, their solar power system will be able to provide them with the electricity they need. This type of peace of mind can be almost impossible to put a price tag on.
