Convert More Clients by Making Solar Module Quality a Part of Your Message

The quality of whatever is being sold is a key concept in most marketing collateral, regardless of the business that’s doing the marketing. But, in the solar industry, quality assurance is something that tends to play second fiddle to such topics as lower energy costs, eco-responsibility, and other important benefits.

The main reason why quality has rarely been discussed when talking about PV modules is because up until now, the only thing that solar installers had to go on was the information that was supplied by the manufacturers. And to be honest, every solar module maker touts their products as being the best-made, the most efficient, and the longest-lasting. Adding to the problem is the fact that there are hundreds of manufacturers vying for a slice of the pie and each one uses different materials and processes. What the industry has been missing most is the data to back up manufacturer claims.

Thankfully, this is a trend that is starting to change and you can use the new information to make your solar marketing messages all the more strong.

Requirements of Module Makers

The solar module manufacturers currently don’t have very many quality assurance requirements they need to follow. In fact, the only standards that manufacturers are required to meet are the safety standards outlined by Underwriter’s Laboratories (UL) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

However, because developers and financial institutions have a big stake in the success of the industry, these entities are now requiring solar modules to undergo strict reliability testing, evaluation of energy yield, third-party .pan files, and factory audits in order to confirm the reliability and long-term performance guarantees made by their manufacturers.

The reason for this is because banks are only interested in one thing – whether or not they will obtain a return on their investment within the time frame allotted by the module makers, while developers are more concerned about the short-term.

The result of these new requirements is the instigating factor for greater quality assurances. The goal of the quality tests is to help ensure that the solar panels that get shipped from their factories are capable of meeting the manufacturer’s claims.

Better Module Quality Equals More Effective Marketing

A solar system is an investment and like any other type of investment, the buyer wants it to be worth the money they put into it. This is why module quality assurance testing is so vitally important in order for the industry to continue growing at its current pace.

When solar professionals are able to confidently market their PV modules as reliable, long-lasting, and durable, they’re able to convey the value proposition much more effectively. Customers don’t want questionable products. They want products that are built to meet or exceed industry standards. When you are able to incorporate that message into your solar marketing, you’ll enjoy stronger sales and greater client satisfaction.
