The length of time between washings depends on the customer’s climate and whether they live in a dusty area, so some may need to clean their panels several times per year.

Unless your customer has a tracking mount for their solar panels, the parts installed on the exterior of the home have no moving parts, so the chance of something going wrong with something outside of the home is minimal. Therefore, you should instruct them to monitor any change in performance that isn’t caused by dirty panels.

Warranty Coverage

After installing a solar system, review the system’s warranty with the customer. Make sure they know what is covered and for how long. Most equipment comes with power output warranties that guarantee panel performance won’t fall below a specific level for the length of the warranty, which is usually 25 years.

A secondary warranty may also be included that guarantees the system will produce no less than 90 percent power output over the first ten years. It is important that the customer know the warranties for each individual component as well as the warranty on the overall installation.
