Already on Twitter? Use It for More Solar Sales

If you’re a part of the Twittersphere, then you’re likely aware that the succinct social media platform has recently launched a live streaming video app, called Periscope. The new addition allows Twitter users to stream live video from their phones to audiences all over the world.

Live streaming video services aren’t new, but few have achieved the market penetration they’ve initially promised, and many have been written off as passing fads. However, if early indications are to be believed, Periscope could be more than a flash in the pan.

As a solar marketer, you’re always looking for ways to reach new solar prospects and fill your sales pipeline with eager clients. So how can Periscope help you achieve those aims?

How Twitter Periscope Works

Periscope allows anyone with a mobile device to broadcast live video from anywhere a data connection is available. But live broadcasting capabilities aren’t the only benefit the service offers. For one thing, the broadcasts are interactive. Twitter and Periscope users can Tweet questions to the presenter, who can answer those questions in real time, providing a whole new level of interactivity.

And while other live-streaming video services treat broadcasts as strictly ephemeral information, Periscope users can download their favorite streams any time in the 24 hours after they’re initially broadcast.

The ability to retain these live transmissions for later use benefits consumers, as they’re able to review the information they’ve received at their leisure, but there are benefits for marketers as well. Any live broadcast can be downloaded and posted to YouTube, or re-purposed as blog or social media content for later use.

How to Leverage Periscope to Drive Solar Sales

If you’re an experienced solar marketer, the gears in your head are already turning. But just in case you need some additional inspiration, let’s talk about the many applications of such a powerful service.

Live Q&A With Solar Clients and More

Your potential solar customers know that the Internet is a valuable research tool, but there’s almost too much information to sift through. Not only that, but reading an article online doesn’t offer the same personal connection that a live video Q&A provides. With Periscope, your solar prospects are free to ask clarifying questions, and being able to learn more about the finer points of going solar may be just the impetus they need to finally commit to purchasing a PV system.

Live video Q&As can also help establish relationships. It might not be quite the same as a one-on-one meeting, but your prospects will still be able to get a sense of your personality. They’ll feel like they’re getting to know and like you, and customers want to buy things from people they like.

Solar Product Demos

Reading about how a product works is informative, but seeing it in action is much more compelling. With Periscope, you can offer live product demos, allowing consumers to get a real sense of the functionality your solar offerings provide.

Behind-the-Scenes Access

In the solar business, competition’s fierce. What better way to put a human face on your solar business than to take your prospective clients on a live tour of the facilities? Once they’ve gotten to meet the people whose livelihoods depend on their business, your business will become more than a logo to them. Instead, they’ll think of it as a group of people just like their friends and neighbors; folks who are trying to earn a living and make the world a better place in the process.

Another Satisfied Solar Customer

While you probably won’t be able to attract a large audience for each and every solar installation your company completes, it doesn’t hurt to use it as a tool for recording customer feedback. Call ahead to your existing clients and ask if they’d mind talking about their solar experience. You can always download these broadcasts and create a testimonial compilation for later use.

Live Connection and Content Generation: The Best of Both Worlds

As you can already tell, Periscope offers substantial benefits to marketers. It hits the sweet spot between live interaction and content generation, and that’s something that other video services have yet to really tap into. We wouldn’t be surprised if this new service becomes the first to really drive widespread adoption of streaming video, which could be a real boon for marketers not just in solar, but in other industries as well.
